You think it cain't happen to you, Dustin? Hell, it's happening to you right now, my man.
Past: Keegan Hyland
Best player in the state. Troubled year. Comes back for end of campaign and tears it up in States. Gets full boat out to Gonzaga. Leaves after a week because the other kids had better clothes in their closets (or maybe that was somebody else who could play. my bad, Keegan). Comes home. Goes to UVM, leaves. Where is he today? I do not know. How very sad. How very human. Hang in there, Keegan. You could play and that means you're a hell of a kid. It's just that the kids with less "talent" are blowing your doors off right about now, in college and at work, socially, blogging, all that. Happens to the best of them.
Present: Dustin
Troubled year. Comes on strong in tourney. Leads team to Western Maine final on Saturday night, vs the immigrant kids from Deering: Could be the best high school boys game this state has ever seen. Seriously. Big time game tomorrow night. But then there's the aftermath...
Future: Dustin Cole
It's in your hands, my friend. You get to write what happens next. You are midmajor D1 talent, no question. Maybe more. The most talented guard in the state since Ralph Mims (if he counts). You can have a career in the game, like your coach. You can play D1 and play on tv. You can be a washout. You can do the rehab shuffle. It's all in your hands. Do I believe in you? I'm writing about you, aren't I?
Write your own script, Dustin Cole.
